Mark has over fifteen years of experience as a Human Capital/Rewards Consultant with various large multinational consulting firms including KPMG Consulting LP, Watson Wyatt Worldwide and Towers Watson.
Mark graduated with an Undergraduate Degree from the University of Waterloo and a post graduate diploma in Human Resources. Mark is a member in good standing with the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario and is a Certified Canadian Compensation Professional.
Mark has significant consulting experience in all aspects of human resource management, total rewards strategy, and design. He has secured, directed, and personally conducted a large number of broad-based human resource management and compensation assignments, including the development of human resource and reward strategies and the design of a wide range of job evaluation systems, as well as salary management, variable pay, and pay equity plans for both private and public sector organizations.
Mark specializes in the area of pay equity compliance has worked in both public/private sectors. This work has involved both union and non-union workforces, including the facilitation of an extensive number of joint union-management processes with for example:
-CUPE, OPSEU, SEIU, CAW, OSSTF, ONA
Mark’s experience covers many aspects of human resource management and total rewards design. He has personally secured and directed a large number of broad based human resource management and compensation assignments, including the development of human resource and reward strategies and the design of a wide range of salary management, variable pay and job evaluation systems.
A frequent speaker on the subjects of pay equity and pay equity maintenance, Mark has presented to Human Resources Professional Association of Ontario Chapters, participated as a subject matter expert at Lorman Education Services seminars, Heenan Blaikie’s Ontario Labour and Employment Managing the Workplace seminars as well as numerous other seminars in connection with his work.
George Vandermey, S.H.R.P., is a Senior Consultant and a member of HCI’s Advisory Committee. He has over 30 years of experience as a Human Resources expert in the Public Sector.
George spent 24 years as the Director of Human Resources for the Corporation of the City of Cambridge. The City of Cambridge is comprised of both unionized and non-unionized employee groups. George’s responsibilities included overall administration and leadership of all human resources activities in the organization. Specifically, he was responsible for all aspects of compensation administration including pay equity and internal equity processes, for non-unionized employee groups and unionized employee groups
George is currently an instructor at Conestoga College. He instructs in the Human Resources and Public Services Programs, including the following topics: Employment Law, Change Management, Organizational Behaviour, Strategic Human Resources Planning, and Strategic Planning and Implementation.

Rene O’Brien is a Senior Consultant for HCI. Rene has over 30 years of experience including 15 years with the Government of Ontario’s Ministry of Labour within the Pay Equity Commission and Employment Standards.
Rene has over 30 years experience interpreting and enforcing employment legislation in Ontario. He helps the employer community make sense of the laws hey have to work with.
Rene graduated from Niagara College with a diploma in Business Administration and is a certified ADR practitioner with a certificate from St.Stevens House. In addition to Rene’s experience with the provincial government Rene also spent time as the Manager of Labour Relations with the City of Hamilton and the Regional Municipality of Niagara.
Rene spent 7 years as a Senior Review Officer with the Pay Equity Commission of Ontario and continues to help clients understand how to gain compliance and remain compliant with legislative requirements.
Rene spent 8 years with the Ministry of Labour as an Employment Standards Officer and District Manager of Employment Standards. During this period Rene played an instrumental role in the development of the Employment Standards Act in 2000.
Sarah Jane Crudden is an experienced Pay Equity professional with expert knowledge in both Ontario’s Pay Equity Act and Canada’s Pay Equity Act.
Prior to joining HCI, Sarah acquired 14 years of public service experience, including nine years working as a Senior Officer at Ontario’s Pay Equity Office and Canada’s Office of the Pay Equity Commissioner. In these roles, Sarah reviewed pay equity plans for compliance, mediated complex pay equity disputes between employers and unions, and provided advice to stakeholders and the public on the interpretation and application of the respective Pay Equity Acts.
Sarah brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in job evaluation systems and methods. Her proficiency in job evaluation is enhanced by her experience as a Team Lead in the Job Evaluation unit of the Ontario Public Service. Here, Sarah was responsible to provide classification advice to senior executives, approve classification decisions, and mentor junior staff on job evaluation methods, systems, and practices.
Before a career change to regulatory enforcement, Sarah earned a Culinary Management diploma and worked as a chef for approximately ten years. She established a successful business providing catering services, wedding cake design, and hospitality advisory services. In this role, Sarah offered consulting services to restaurants in need of menu design, recipe creation, and marketing strategies. Sarah completed a post-graduate program in Corporate Communications and Public Relations in 2010.
