Mark Whittrick
Managing Partner & Senior Consultant

Mark has over fifteen years of experience as a Human Capital/Rewards Consultant with various large multinational consulting firms including KPMG Consulting LP, Watson Wyatt Worldwide and Towers Watson.

Areas of Expertise

Mark specializes in the area of pay equity compliance has worked in both public/private sectors. This work has involved both union and non-union workforces, including the facilitation of an extensive number of joint union-management processes with for example:

-CUPE, OPSEU, SEIU, CAW, OSSTF, ONA

Mark’s experience covers many aspects of human resource management and total rewards design. He has personally secured and directed a large number of broad based human resource management and compensation assignments, including the development of human resource and reward strategies and the design of a wide range of salary management, variable pay and job evaluation systems.

A frequent speaker on the subjects of pay equity and pay equity maintenance, Mark has presented to Human Resources Professional Association of Ontario Chapters, participated as a subject matter expert at Lorman Education Services seminars, Heenan Blaikie’s Ontario Labour and Employment Managing the Workplace seminars as well as numerous other seminars in connection with his work.

Senior Consultant

George Vandermey, S.H.R.P., is a Senior Consultant and a member of HCI’s Advisory Committee. He has over 30 years of experience as a Human Resources expert in the Public Sector.

George's Professional Profile

George spent 24 years as the Director of Human Resources for the Corporation of the City of Cambridge.  The City of Cambridge is comprised of both unionized and non-unionized employee groups. George’s responsibilities included overall administration and leadership of all human resources activities in the organization.  Specifically, he was responsible for all aspects of compensation administration including pay equity and internal equity processes, for non-unionized employee groups and unionized employee groups

George is currently an instructor at Conestoga College. He instructs in the Human Resources and Public Services Programs, including the following topics: Employment Law, Change Management, Organizational Behaviour, Strategic Human Resources Planning, and Strategic Planning and Implementation.

Rene O’Brien
Senior Consultant

Rene O’Brien is a Senior Consultant for HCI. Rene has over 30 years of experience including 15 years with the Government of Ontario’s Ministry of Labour within the Pay Equity Commission and Employment Standards.

Areas of Expertise

Rene spent 7 years as a Senior Review Officer with the Pay Equity Commission of Ontario and continues to help clients understand how to gain compliance and remain compliant with legislative requirements.
Rene spent 8 years with the Ministry of Labour as an Employment Standards Officer and District Manager of Employment Standards. During this period Rene played an instrumental role in the development of the Employment Standards Act in 2000.

Rene has over 30 years experience interpreting and enforcing employment legislation in Ontario. He helps the employer community make sense of the laws hey have to work with.

Rene graduated from Niagara College with a diploma in Business Administration and is a certified ADR practitioner with a certificate from St.Stevens House. In addition to Rene’s experience with the provincial government Rene also spent time as the Manager of Labour Relations with the City of Hamilton and the Regional Municipality of Niagara.

Dave Schnarr
Senior Consultant

Dave Schnarr is Senior Consultant with HCI.  Dave has over 30 years experience is as an HR professional and leader, specifically as Superintendant of HR at Waterloo Region Catholic District Board,  Senior Consultant with Watson Wyatt and Executive Director for The Centre for Family Business.

Areas of Expertise

Dave has significant experience though out his career implementing and overseeing Pay Equity internally as well providing Pay Equity consulting to many companies
Dave is a trained facilitator in Interest Based Bargaining and a certified Mediator. Dave has led many negotiations of union and non-union groups, both internally and as a consultant.

Dave's Professional Profile

Dave graduated from the University of Waterloo with Honours Bachelor of Mathematics and an MBA from Wilfred Laurier University. He is a member Human Resource Professionals of Ontario and a Certified Human Resource Leader.

Dave has over 40 years of business experience, with over 30 years in Human Resources. As Superintendant of Human Resources for the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, Dave was responsible for leading all Bargaining Groups, Employee Benefit Plans, Recruitment and Selection, HR Policies (including Pay Equity and Job Evaluation), Strategic Planning and Grievances. Dave is currently a Board member for Kitchener Wilmot Hydro and formerly the Chair of the Board for the Centre in the Square, in addition to being a board member for Hospice and the United Way. Dave also served as the chair of the Human Resources Committee for the Ontario Assosciation of School Business Officials.

Currently Dave is also the Executive Director for The Centre Family Business, located in Waterloo Region and serving the greater area, providing leadership and strategic direction.

Ryan Schnarr
Consultant and Product Lead

Ryan is a Consultant for HCI. Ryan has provided consulting services for over 10 years which include visioning, strategy, recruitment, pay equity and more. In addition, Ryan brings his product expertise to HCI to help build tools and services for our customers.

Ryan's Professional Profile

Ryan graduated from the University of Western Ontario with Bachelor of Economics with a focus on business administration and is currently training to become a Certified Compensation Professional.

Ryan’s career started in product management and development for Telus and Bell, providing leadership and strategic planning for emerging technology product lines before starting his own consulting business offering; strategic planning, online marketing strategies, website development, recruitment and compensation services and solutions for small, medium and large businesses.

Ryan has worked closely with the Greater KW Chamber of Commerce and Centre for Family Business providing seminars and training sessions for groups of 10 to 200 people focusing on helping businesses succeed. Ryan has also served on the Board of Directors for the Steckle Heritage Farm in Kitchener.
